Defining and Responding to Aboriginal Homelessness in Flin Flon

Defining and Responding to Aboriginal Homelessness in Flin Flon

Research Start-up Summary and Abstract:
A number of studies have emphasized the over-representation of Aboriginal people in the urban homeless population (Belanger 2012; Leach 2010). Nevertheless there are few studies focussing on Aboriginal homeless people, and most of those have occurred in large southern cities (but see Abele et al 2012 and Falvo 2011). The characteristics of Aboriginal homeless individuals in small northern communities may be quite different from those in larger cities and the network of services and policy responses that these communities can offer may also be different. This study will attempt to obtain information about the characteristics and experiences of the homeless population in Flin Flon with the goal of identifying possible policy responses to their needs.
